What Dark Souls is doing to kick you down, while keeping you in love.

To all of you out there with the patience, nerve, and willingness to learn, Demon's Souls was a unique, immersive RPG with a lovely touch of horror. Beating the game was the equivalent to chopping down a tree with a pitch fork; most people would look at you like you were crazy for trying, but when you finally felt the thud of the tree hitting the ground, you felt like you could do anything.

Now there's a sequel, kinda. The next game developed by From Software promises to take the original concept and build upon it in marvelous ways. Now,all of the real Demon's Souls fans will probably know everything about Dark Souls, but to the uninformed, here's the skinny...

The first thing that should be mentioned is that the team making Dark Souls, From Software, stated that the new game is going to be much more difficult than its predecessor, so all of you that loved the challenge will be quite pleased. With more traps, intense boss battles, and over whelming enemies, Dark Souls is not for the rage quitters out there.

Next, Dark Souls, as various sources in the development team made very clear, is not a sequel to Demon's souls. The new game takes places in an entirely new area with a new story and new characters. However they have the same concept of fantasy/horror, and the same feel of being hopelessly weak going up against creatures much stronger than you. The game also has the same combat, although some weapons can use magic spells, and armor can now be upgraded just like weapons. Another big thing about the new game is that it is completely open world, as opposed to the hub based system, and apparently has few, if any, loading screens, with campfires spread through out the world acting as safe zones, to heal up, take a break, and share experiences with other players.

Although Dark Souls isn't scheduled to come out until October, From Software and Namco Bandai have been very forth coming with hot news and developments, and is looking to be one of the hottest games of 2011.
