Alan Wake’s Journey into the Night Will Continue... Well, Maybe not.

Rumors of another installment in the Alan Wake franchise have been going around since the games release in May of 2010. Remedy, the games developer, didn’t deny these rumors but they didn’t confirm them either and the rumor mill began to die down. But earlier this week the rumor mill began to start up again when “Alan Wake 2” appeared on an artist’s resume. With that bit of information out in the open, Remedy decided to reveal that another Alan Wake game was in production. But the new game we found out is not going to be a sequel to Alan Wake, nor will it be downloadable content.

Now wait a minute. If it’s not a sequel or DLC, then what is it? Could it be a prequel of some sort? Perhaps you take control of Alan’s wife, Alice as she is taken by the darkness? Or maybe you play as Berry… Well, I really hope not. But with such a vague description of what the new game is about you can’t help but wonder about the scenarios that Remedy could cook up for such a game.

Alan Wake was my 2010 game of the year, and one of my favorite games of all time. Its story, atmosphere, characters, and setting kept me intrigued from start to finish and made me not want to put the controller down. If this “Non-Sequel” is anything like the original game I think that die-hard fans and new ones alike will be drawn to the series. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it won’t take Remedy another 8 or 9 years to get this baby out there.
